Artist's Statement:
I started my career in the arts as a Graphic Designer after receiving my Master’s (MGD) at North Carolina State University, specializing as a Multimedia Designer. I later worked as an Art Director and Creative Director in advertising and marketing firms in Richmond, VA and in Washington, DC. I also taught interactive design in graduate school at Virginia Commonwealth University’s Brandcenter.
After a leave from advertising to raise my kids, I started back studying photography. I published a few photos, but that was never my true passion. I found myself sketching compositions that were built on my photography. These sketches enhanced the narrative of my photos, providing more context, texture and layers of meaning. I found I missed the tactile creation by hand. I missed the ability to build the storyline through various mediums.
Now that I am able to create full time, I am still taking photos, studying nature, drawing, painting, reading children’s books, collaging and most importantly, creating stories through my art to share.
